First national dialogue on climate change launched in Sharm El-Sheikh

Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad launched Saturday the first national dialogue on climate change in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Addressing the launch ceremony, Fouad said Egypt’s hosting of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh in November offers an important opportunity to involve the various segments of Egyptian society in the climate change issue.

Egypt is currently witnessing a rapid developmental transformation in all fields, including the protection and development of nature reserves in accordance with international standards, she added.

The ministry is currently working to spread awareness about how to confront climate change nationwide, the minister said

During the forum, Sharm El-Sheikh Governor Khaled Fouda shared the latest steps they have taken to turn it into a green city, including receiving 300 electric buses in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, establishing a 100,000 square metre garage with charging points for electric vehicles in cooperation of the Ministry of Transport as well as the governorate’s work to convert 800 taxis to work with natural gas.
