According to the EMPC board, El-Gebaly is replacing former Minister of Information Osama Heikal.

The appointment of El-Gebaly came after he was recommended by the EMPC’s mother company, the National Media Authority (NMA).

The NMA has already appointed its representatives to the EMPC’s board of directors, including Abdel-Fattah El-Gebaly, Magdy Lasheen, Mervat Ali, Taha Mahmoud and Ahmed Hussein. They are replacing previous representatives Osama Heikal, Fatima Fouad, Sanaa Mansour and Shawkia Abbas.

From his side, former minister of information and veteran journalist Osama Heikal announced that Saturday would be the last day for him as EMPC chairman. He noted that when he assumed his position in 2014, the EMPC had debts amounting to EGP 185 million, while he is leaving it with a net profit of EGP 137.6 million and no debt.

The EMPC media complex covers an area of 35 million square metres and is responsible for broadcasting most local channels.
