Monday paid holiday on anniversary of Sinai Liberation Day, Sham El-Nessim: PM

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Monday said that Monday 25 April , will be a paid holiday for public sector employees to celebrate the anniversary of Sinai Liberation Day and Sham El-Nessim.

The decision applies to ministries, governmental bodies, public facilities, municipalities, public enterprises, and public business sector companies.

On 25 April every year, Egypt celebrates the final withdrawal of the Israeli occupation army from the Sinai Peninsula on that day in 1982, as per the 1979 US-brokered Egypt-Israel peace agreement.

Sham-El-Nessim is an ancient Egyptian festival that takes place in the same breath as Easter, falling on the day after Easter Sunday each year.

Madbouly also announced that the period between Saturday 30 April and Thursday 5 May will a paid holiday to mark both Labour Day and Eid El-Fitr.
