On Thursday, Cairo saw a high of 33 and a low of 23 degrees while Upper Egypt saw highs of 35 to 38 and lows of 23 to 26.

However, warm and windy weather is forecast to prevail nationwide during the three-day Eid El-Fitr, which, according to astronomical calculations, starts this year on Monday, 2 May.

The rise in temperatures on Friday comes as the country finds itself in a fast desert depression that will move away soon toward the Levant, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) said in a statement on Thursday.

Dusty winds are also expected in parts of the Greater Cairo area, Upper Egypt and northwestern coast, reduce vision to less than 1,000 metres in Western Desert and northern Upper Egypt, the EMA said.

Mild rainfall is also possible in the western parts of the country on Friday, the EMA said.

Dusty weather is also expected in the southern parts of the country and Sinai on Saturday and in the Western Desert on Monday.

Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to drop back to normal levels by Saturday.

According to the EMA forecast, temperatures in southern Upper Egypt, however, will remain over 40 degrees Celsius until Wednesday.

From Saturday to Wednesday, Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt will see highs of 30 to 35 degrees Celsius and lows of 17 to 19 degrees.

The northern coast is expected to see highs of 32 and lows of 24, while South Sinai will see highs of 35 to 36 and lows of 22 to 25.

Meanwhile, northern Upper Egypt will see highs of 33 to 39 and lows of 18 to 20 degrees, while southern Upper Egypt will see highs of 41 to 43 and lows of 24 to 26 degrees.
