This is an unprecedented number of visitors in one day, he said, making it clear that all precautionary measures against coronavirus are being strictly applied.

This comes on the heels of the zoo receiving over 40,000 visitors in just the first few hours of the first day of Eid on Monday, according to a previous statement by Ragai

In statements to MENA, Ragai added that all basic amenities are provided for the visitors, noting that green spaces have been increased across the zoo.

The Giza Zoo, which was built by Khedive Ismail and opened on 1 March, 1891, is the third oldest in the world and the oldest in Africa.

The zoo was first established as a botanical garden over an area of about 80 acres.
