Environment minister urges solutions to counter pollution in seas, oceans

Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad pressed the need to adopt strategies that address the problem of pollution in seas and oceans, underlining the importance of involving more communities around the world to decrease human impact.

The minister's remarks were made during her participation in a virtual session of dialogue held in Lisbon under the title of "The Road to UN Ocean Conference 2022." The session is scheduled to address means of management, maintenance and protection of coastal environments.

UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt Elena Panova, Kenyan Ambassador in Cairo Joff Otieno as well as a large number of environmental experts attended the session.

Addressing the session, Fouad reviewed the main events on biological diversity and nature that will be held on the sidelines of the UN Climate Conference (COP27) that will be hosted by Egypt in November.

She said COP27 will include a conference that explores the best practices that should be adopted to protect the ecological system and maintain biodiversity along with means of protecting seas and oceans from the impact of human practices and activities.
