Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulations issues 100 licenses for newspapers, websites and TV channels

Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulations (SCMR) issued on Thursday 100 new licenses and permits for newspapers, websites and TV channels in accordance with the council’s bylaws issued in 2019.

In a ceremony held in Cairo, the head of the SCMR delivered the license and permits to privately owned newspapers, websites, and TV channels.

Another batch of licenses will be issued soon, according to head of the council Karam Gabr.

Among the prominent news websites and newspapers that received their license on Thursday were Masrawy website, Youm 7 website and newspaper, and Masr 360.

According to the SCMR law on regulating the media in Egypt, news websites cannot be founded or operate in the country without receiving a license from the SCMR.
