Cabinet reviews strategy to reduce consumption of plastic bags in Egypt

Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad reviewed during a Cabinet meeting held under Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Thursday ways of activating a strategy to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic bags in Egypt.

A strategy was prepared to rationalise the use of single-use plastic bags (2021-2030) with the support of Japan International Cooperation Agency, said the minister.

The plastic waste, which is dumped annually into the seas and oceans, amounts to 23 million tons, she added.

Fouad also reviewed the goals of the national strategy to reduce the negative impact of the massive consumption of plastic bags on health, the environment, economy and society.
