3.7 magnitude earthquake hits near Marsa Matrouh, no damage reported

A 3.7 magnitude earthquake struck approximately 135 kilometres southeast of Marsa Matrouh city on Saturday, the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) announced.

The quake, 3.02 kilometres deep, occurred at 3:21pm Cairo local time, according to the NRIAG.

No casualties or property damage has been reported, the NRIAG said in its statement.

Residents did not feel the quake.

The last major earthquake hit the country in 1992, measuring 5.8 in magnitude, killing 541 people and injuring over 6,500 in Greater Cairo.
