The minister said that 36 Egyptian universities were listed on the 2022 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, up from 31 in 2021.

The list ranks 1,406 universities from 106 countries for their commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Also, 26 Egyptian public and private universities are included in the British Times Higher Education classification of global higher education institutions for 2023.

Moreover, 19 Egyptian universities are ranked in the US NEWS global classification for 2022/2023, among the best 2,000 universities in the world.

The statement also noted that 24 Egyptian universities are included in the Shanghai Chinese General Classification for Academic Specialisations in 2022, compared to only five in 2020.

Furthermore, 42 Egyptian universities are listed in the Spanish Simago classification for the year 2022, compared to 35 universities in 2021.

The statement also referred to the inclusion of seven Egyptian universities in the Shanghai Chinese General Classification (ARWU), compared to six in 2021.

SCImago Lab has released a new ranking of research centres in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, placing Egypt’s National Research Centre at the top of the list. Three other Egyptian research centers ranked among the top ten, including the Agricultural Research Centre (4th), the Atomic Energy Authority (5th), and the Petroleum Research Institute (7th).

SCImago is a leading editor of academic rankings and released the ranking in collaboration with Elsevier, a global leader in research publishing and information analytics, and Egypt’s higher education ministry.

Also, 76 Egyptian educational and research institutions are listed in the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities in 2022, up from 72 in 2021.

In a separate report issued by SCImago in April 2022, Egypt ranked 26th out of 232 countries in the world in the field of international publishing in 2021 out of 232 countries compared 28th in 2020.

The report stated that the total number of papers published by Egypt in globally indexed journals amounted to 38,651 in 2021, compared to 31,786 in 2020, an increase of 21.6 percent.

The ministry’s statement attributed this increase to better training in international publishing and efforts from universities and research centres to motivate researchers to publish in prestigious international journals.
