Heavy rains have flooded streets for the second day with photos on social media showing vehicles struggling to drive through standing water.
Authorities in Alexandria have deployed 150 vehicles and equipment to remove the standing water amid a continued state of emergency in the Mediterranean governorate.
Alexandria Governor Mohamed El-Sherif ordered heads of districts across the governorate to follow up on the repercussions of the ongoing storm in order to immediately deal with any problems caused by heavy rain and ensure smooth traffic flow.
Heavy rains in Alexandria forced the governorate to suspend classes and exams at schools on Thursday only a few hours before the start of the school day.
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) expects further rain on Friday in eastern Alexandria, as well as in Beheira and Kafr El-Sheikh governorates in the northern Delta.
In a report on Thursday, the EMA predicted moderate to heavy rain and thunder on the northwestern coast and northern Lower Egypt on Friday. The same areas will also see light to moderate rain on Saturday.
On Sunday, moderate rain and thunder are expected in western Egypt.
On Monday, moderate rain may hit the northwest coast and northern Lower Egypt and light to moderate rain may be seen in southern Lower Egypt, Suez Canal cities, Sinai and the Gulf of Suez, the EMA added.
Pleasant weather is expected in the daytime hours in Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the North Coast, Upper Egypt and South Sinai, while all areas nationwide will see cold temperatures during nighttime and early morning.
