
Former Minister of Interior Mansour Essawy
According to news reports, his funeral will be held Tuesday at El-Sayida Nafissa Mosque and a memorial service will be held for him in Cairo on Wednesday.
Essawi was born on 18 September 1937 in Esna in Luxor governorate.
He graduated from the police academy in 1959 and started his career in the Cairo security directorate.
In 1988, Essawy was appointed as the head of the Giza security directorate and in 1992 he was appointed as assistant minister of interior for the central Upper Egypt zone.
In 1995, he was appointed as the head of the Cairo security directorate.
In 1996, he retired from the ministry of interior and was appointed as the governor of Minya, where he served for one year.
In March 2011, he was appointed interior minister to the interim government led by former PM Essam Sharaf, succeeding the Mubarak-appointed Mahmoud Wagdy, where he served until December.
