Facebook is the most used social media platform in Egypt, followed by Instagram and then Tiktok, according to a survey conducted by the Egyptian Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC) in January 2022.

Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, Instigram

The IDSC's survey – whose sample comprised 1,002 Egyptians who are 18 or older – found that 95.9 percent of those surveyed used Facebook either frequently, intermittently, or rarely.

Only 3.5 percent said they did not use Facebook at all, while 0.6 percent did not specify whether they used the platform, according to the survey.

Instagram came in second at 54.6 percent of the sample, followed by Tiktok at 45.7 percent, the survey said.

Moreover, 50 percent said they use Facebook daily, while daily Instagram users were 14.4 percent of those sampled and daily TikTok users were 9 percent.

Twitter and LinkedIn came in at fourth and fifth spot as the most used services daily with 3.2 percent and 0.08 percent respectively.

Egypt has been seeing a noticeable increase in the number of mobile internet users since the outbreak of coronavirus, during which social distancing measures were introduced to combat the spread of the virus.

In October 2022, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology said that the number of mobile internet users in Egypt reached 69.4 million, up from 39 million in December of 2019, a 77.9 percent increase.

Egypt's population reached 104 million in October 2022, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics, up from 99.5 million in December 2019, a 4.5 percent increase.
