The Al-Asmarat District was founded in 2016 as part of the state's efforts to provide decent and safe housing for low-income citizens who were relocated from slum areas.

The state completed 20,000 housing units in the neighbourhood in 2018.

During the tour, President El-Sisi visited a fair showcasing handmade products by women from the neighbourhood.

He praised the fair and directed officials to provide all necessary materials for the project.

Town hall meeting

After Iftar, El-Sisi participated in a town hall meeting with residents, which was attended by a number of MPs and public figures.

In remarks during the meeting, El-Sisi reaffirmed the state's commitment to improving provision of services to citizens.

The president also reaffirmed the state's intention to create one million job opportunities per year for fresh graduates as part of its efforts to combat unemployment, which currently stands at 7.4 percent.

“One million new jobs every year is a significant number to achieve and some countries which have a lower population growth rate than ours have been unable to achieve it,” El-Sisi said.

The current rate of unemployment in Egypt is low compared to rates in other countries which are also impacted by the global economic crisis, he told the audience.

Infrastructure & housing projects

In an answer to a question by an Asmarat resident on the economy, El-Sisi emphasised that infrastructure projects undertaken by the government aim to create job opportunities for the youth.

El-Sisi said that the two million housing units that have been constructed since he took office in 2014 have created many new job opportunities for young people.

He urged citizens to exude confidence in their country and remain united amid the ongoing economic crisis.
