This comes as part of the cooperation protocol signed on Thursday between the Ministry of Education and Technical Education and the German Goethe Institute as part of the Schools: Partners for the Future initiative that was signed in 2008.
During the signing ceremony at the ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, Hegazy emphasised the ministry’s close relations and cooperation in the field of education with Germany.
“Goethe Institute is one of the most important partners working to support knowledge of the German language in Egypt. [The institute] fosters cultural cooperation between the two countries, especially in projects that target sustainable teacher development,” Hegazy stated.
The ministry attaches great importance to the German language and work is underway to establish 100 Egyptian-German schools, similar to the Egyptian-Japanese schools, Hegazy explained.
For his part, Head of the German Language Department at Goethe Institute Sebastian Foerster expressed his great pleasure at signing this protocol, which confirms the depth of the relations between the two countries.
Last year, Egypt’s Ministry of Education and Goethe Institute signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish cooperation in the fields of German Language teaching.
The MoU aimed to increase German language instruction in schools by offering pre-qualification and continued professional development of German language teachers and school leaders.
Ever since the signing of the Egyptian-German cultural agreement in 1959, the Goethe Institute has successfully played a vital role in promoting German cultural activities in Egypt, supporting German language learning as well as international cultural cooperation.
