Due to the Khamasin spring phenomenon, the hot spell was accompanied with strong winds and sandstorms in several parts of the country Thursday that brought down billboards and ripped up trees on major streets in the capital.
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) said the wind will continue through Wednesday, according to a statement released on Friday.
The EMA also predicted a chance of light rainfall over the North Coast and Lower Egypt, maybe even over Greater Cairo and northern Upper Egypt.
Temperatures in Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt and South Sinai reached 40 degrees on Friday, while they reached 33 degrees on the North Coast, according to the EMA.
Northern Upper Egypt recorded temperatures of 42 degrees and southern Upper Egypt 43 degrees, added the EMA.
From Saturday to Wednesday, temperatures are expected to drop by 4-5 degrees, with highs of 33-34 degrees and lows of 21-24 in Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt.
The North Coast will see highs of 27-33 degrees, with lows of 20 degrees.
South Sinai will see highs of 38-40 degrees and lows of 25-28 degrees.
Northern Upper Egypt and South Sinai will see highs of 38-42 degrees and lows of 24-25 degrees.
Southern Upper Egypt will see highs of 42-43 degrees and lows of 27-28 degrees.
