Egypt president congratulates Ahly on clinching 11th African Champions League title

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi congratulated Egypt's Ahly on claiming their 11th African title after a 1-1 tie with Morocco’s Wydad on Sunday in Mohamed V Stadium.

The Cairo giants, who won the first leg 2-1 in Cairo a week earlier, clinched the African Champions League title after claiming a 3-2 win on aggregate.

Ahly hold the record for the most Champions League titles in Africa with 11 wins, while Wydad has won the title three times. 

El-Sisi lauded the national team's historic achievement, as well as the high spirit and determination exhibited by the Pharaohs during the final game, according to Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.

The president expressed his wishes Egyptian sports garner more victories in various championships, added the spokesman.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Hanafy El-Gebaly and Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi also congratulated Ahly on the victory.

 

El-Gebaly thanked the Ahly administration, team, and players for their distinguished performance that reflected an honourable image of Egyptian sports.
