This came during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation El-Sayed El-Qusair on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the president was briefed on the efforts exerted to increase and improve the productivity of cultivated feddans in Egypt both in terms of quantity and quality, said Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy in a statement.

The statement noted that these efforts have led to Egypt's progress in the global ranking of feddan (acre) productivity to the first five positions in many crops -- including rice, corn and wheat.

The meeting also reviewed national agricultural projects within the framework of the state’s plan to redraw the map of Egyptian agriculture by boosting local production, the statement added.

Egypt has exerted "huge and unprecedented" efforts to reclaim millions of feddans in various parts of Egypt within a short period, Fahmy noted, adding that more than three million new feddans will soon be under cultivation.

This is more than a third of all agricultural lands in Egypt, according to Fahmy.

In recent years, the country has been working on a reclamation programme to prepare 2.2 million new feddans in the New Delta, 1.5 million feddans in Toshka, and 460,000 feddans in central Sinai.

The president was also informed on the growth rates of fresh and processed agricultural exports. The country's agricultural exports exceeded $7.5 billion in 2022.

In this regard, El-Sisi directed the government to press ahead in providing full support to farmers and to enhance the reputation of Egyptian products for quality worldwide.
