According to the EMA, Storm Daniel reached the Libyan coast, bringing heavy rain, record rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, and waves exceeding 4 meters high.
The EMA added that Storm Daniel will have lost most of its strength by the time it reaches Egypt’s west coast. It warned, however, that the country would see unstable weather conditions from Monday till Wednesday.
The authority further stated that a combination of a low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere and a deep low-pressure system over the Mediterranean Sea would precipitate an increased cloud cover, thunderstorms, and moderate to heavy rain.
These weather conditions will affect parts of western Egypt, including Salloum, Marsa Matrouh, and Siwa.
Light to moderate rain is expected to spread to parts of Alexandria in the evening.
On Tuesday, moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms will continue over scattered areas of western Egypt, including the northwestern coast and northern Delta.
Light to moderate rain will gradually move inland to affect parts of the southern Delta, the canal cities, and possibly Cairo.
On Wednesday, rain will taper off to light to moderate showers over parts of the northern coast, Delta, and the canal cities. Light rain is also expected over parts of the southern Delta, Suez Gulf, and Central Sinai.
Strong winds will blow Monday over parts of the northwestern coast, Delta, northern Upper Egypt, Cairo, and the canal cities. These winds could be strong enough to stir up dust and sand.
Temperatures will range between 34 and 33 degrees Celsius.
The EMA predicted the highest temperature in Cairo on Monday to be 37 degrees Celsius. From Tuesday to the end of the week, temperatures are expected to range between 34 and 33 degrees Celsius.
Storm Daniel is a Mediterranean cyclone with hurricane-like characteristics, which formed in the Mediterranean Sea on 5 September 2023.
The storm landed in Greece on 6 September, causing floods and damage and killing at least 10 people. Dozens have gone missing.
