His rich professional journey took him across Cairo, Belgrade, New York, and Washington, representing Al-Ahram. He also served as a representative of the United Nations in Khartoum in Sudan and Lusaka in Zambia.
El-Amir served as a correspondent for Egypt’s Middle East News Agency in Belgrade, Yugoslavia at a unique time for the two countries, when their respective presidents – Gamal Abdel-Nasser and Josip Broz Tito – enjoyed a special friendship as leaders in the Non-Aligned Movement.
Afterward, he joined the editorial team of the foreign desk at Al-Ahram.
El-Amir was appointed as a media advisor to Egypt's mission at the United Nations in New York (1975-1980) following the October War in 1973. He engaged in intensive political activities within the United Nations and New York.
After his mission in New York, El-Amir became a correspondent for Al-Ahram in Washington, DC.
Subsequently, he was selected as the director of the United Nations office in Khartoum, later moving to Lusaka, and eventually returning to the United Nations headquarters in New York.
El-Amir returned to his home in Zamalek, where he continued writing for Al-Ahram daily and more regularly in Al-Ahram Weekly until his retirement a few years ago.
He graduated from Cairo University's Faculty of Arts, English Language Department, in 1962.
El-Amir was also married to the renowned radio personality Lamis Abdulaziz, who is the sister of the esteemed actress Lubna Abdulaziz.
