'Young Creators' competition opens for Egyptian expats

Egypt's Ministry of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, launched the fourth edition of the Young Creator competition, with four prizes worth EGP 40,000 each.

The competition began on 1 October and will continue until 31 December, according to a statement issued by the emigration ministry on Thursday.

Minister of Emigration Soha El-Gendy invited young Egyptian expatriates to participate in the competition.

This competition was developed using the feedback provided during the fourth edition of the Egyptian expatriates conference in July, in which 1,000 Egyptians residing in 56 countries participated, she explained.

The competition aims to “strengthen the national identity, as well discover and nurture talent among Egyptians abroad," El-Gendy said.

Competition categories
 

The competition is divided into two age brackets: 5-to-12 years old and 12-to-18 years old. Each bracket has two awards, with each one worth EGP 40,000ز

The categories are painting, short stories, poetry, playwriting, playing instruments, singing, scientific innovations, applications, and websites.

If an applicant is selected for further evaluation, they will be interviewed at the headquarters of the Supreme Council of Culture to discuss the submitted work.

Conditions
 

1. The applicant must be of Egyptian nationality.

2. The applicant must not have previously been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor against honour or trust unless they have been rehabilitated.

3. The age of the applicant on the first day of the opening of the application window mentioned in the award announcement must not exceed eighteen years of age.

4. Works must be submitted in Arabic only.

5. Works must be written in Word or PDF format. Printed or handwritten works will not be accepted.

6. The same work must not be submitted for another award or competition until the award result is announced.

7. The submitted work must not have previously won another award or competition.

8. A person is not entitled to apply in more than one branch.

9. Group submissions, with a maximum of three people, are acceptable only in the applications websites, and scientific innovations categories. The award will be divided among participants as determined in writing by them, or else divided equally.

10. Works that do not meet the conditions of the award are excluded.

11. Submissions may not be plagiarized or otherwise stolen.

12. In the event of the applicant’s death after the personal interview, the application remains valid.

13. The evaluation process is the inherent right of the arbitration committee and the applicant may not review it.

How to apply
 

1. Apply online through the award’s website.

2. Fill out the required data accurately.

3. Attach a PDF file that includes a clear image of the applicant’s birth certificate.

4. Upload the submitted work in Word or PDF format for the story, poetry, and theatrical composition categories; a JPG file for the drawing category; or a video for the singing, instrument playing, scientific innovations, and applications and websites categories.
