Two Egyptian sisters, Howaida and Hayat Khalil Al-Desouki, were among eight members of the Al-Amrain family who tragically died in their sleep during an Israeli bombing of their house in Khan Younis on Monday.
Howaida, aged 67, was making her first visit to the Gaza Strip and was scheduled to return to Egypt on Tuesday morning. She was visiting her sister, who is married to a Palestinian and resides in Gaza.
According to Howaida's niece, Alaa Younis Abu Al-Amrain, Israeli warplanes bombed their house without warning at three o'clock in the morning, causing it to collapse.
The Al-Amrain family lost several members in this devastating incident, including Ayatollah Younis, Muhammad Younis, and their grandchildren Hayat Muhammad Younis, Habiba Muhammad Younis, and Younis Muhammad, as confirmed by Ahmed Al-Sayed Khalil, Howaida's brother.
The Palestinian Union of Social Workers and Psychologists expressed their condolences for the loss of Howaida Al-Desouki, noting her significant contributions to humanitarian community work and her dedication to defending the rights of the Palestinian people throughout her life.
Condolences will be offered for Howaida at Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in Ain Shams, Cairo, on Tuesday evening.
The Israeli airstrikes on Gaza were carried out in retaliation for Operation "Al-Aqsa Flood," which saw Hamas combatants launch a surprise attack on towns and residential communities surrounding the Strip through ground, air, and sea attacks last Saturday morning.
The Israeli fatalities reached 900, while 687 Palestinians, including 140 children and 105 women, were killed by Israeli bombings by Monday evening, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry Spokesperson.
30 Egyptians seek to flee Jerusalem
In a statement on Tuesday, Minister of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs Soha El-Gendi revealed that she received "calls for help" from about 30 Egyptians with Canadian citizenship "who are in Jerusalem to perform religious rituals."
El-Gendi stated that she contacted Khaled Azmy, the Egyptian Ambassador to Tel Aviv, who confirmed that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure their safe departure, with their departure date adjusted accordingly.
On another note, the minister was reassured about the conditions of Egyptians in the Gaza Strip after communicating with Ihab Suleiman, the Egyptian ambassador to Palestine, stating that all Egyptians in the Gaza Strip are in good condition, without mentioning the two casualties reported by Al-Arabiya.
