This came during the AIRA’s regular session, chaired by Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb on Sunday, where it began with a minute of silence in mourning for “the martyrs of the Islamic and Arab nation, the heroic martyrs of Palestine, including children, women, elders, and young people,” as per the statement.
Last week, Al-Azhar declared its condemnation of the Israeli war on Gaza, stressing that support for the Palestinian people is a religious, moral, and humanitarian obligation.
In a previous statement, Al-Azhar called on the international community to stop applying double standards to the Israel-Palestine conflict, mourning Palestinian “martyrs” and praising their resistance.
The AIRA also condemned the Israeli’s attempts to displace, and ethnically cleanse Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, forcing them to leave their homes and lands while targeting them with prohibited weapons on the international, ethical, and humanitarian levels.
According to the UN, Israeli airstrikes have destroyed hundreds of Palestinian homes in the Gaza Strip, leaving more than half of the 2.3 million residents without shelter.
Since the start of the Hamas-Israel war on 7 October, the Israeli occupation army has imposed an all-out siege of the strip, cutting off all water, food, and electricity supplies to the strip while preparing for a ground invasion.
The Palestinians’ death from Israeli airstrikes has reached 2,750 with 9,700 injured since the start of the war, according to the latest numbers reported by the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Hamas attacks on Israel have left more than 1,400 Israelis killed and hundreds injured.
For days now, Egypt has been planning to send tens of trucks carrying humanitarian aid to the Palestinians through the Rafah border crossing.
However, Israel has refused to open the Rafah crossing.
