Egypt's Journalists Syndicate
The syndicate reaffirmed in its statement that the crime of targeting journalists will neither conceal the truth nor erase the crime.
“Every crime committed against people [Palestinians] defending their homeland against one of the worst forms of racial, colonial occupation known in human history will not be forgotten,” the syndicate stressed.
They also mourned the passing of two journalists on Friday: Reuters' videographer Issam Abdallah, who was martyred in the shelling of the Alma Ash-Shaab neighbourhood, and Al-Aqsa TV channel's presenter Hossam Mubarak, who was martyred in an airstrike by the occupation forces in the northern Gaza Strip.
Another martyr also fell in Gaza while covering the brutal war against Palestinians, raising the number of victims among journalists since the beginning of the aggression to more than 11, 10 of whom were in Gaza, as per the statement.
Twenty others were injured, 45 were attacked while performing their duties, and two were missing as we lost contact with them during the coverage of the events in Gaza.
The syndicate holds the occupation authorities fully responsible for targeting journalists working in the field and bombing and destroying some media institutions as well as the homes of several journalists and media professionals.
They reiterated their full solidarity with the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate’s demands which include requesting the UN, especially UNESCO, to provide international protection for journalists against murder and systematic targeting.
It also asked for preserving the journalists’ rights to access the internet and other means of communication in order to efficiently cover the Israeli war on Palestinians in Gaza.
