Rally called on Friday at Cairo's Unknown Soldier in protest of 'Palestinian cause liquidation'

The Board of Trustees of Egypt’s National Dialogue has called for a massive rally on Friday in front of the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier in Cairo’s Nasr City to support the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip amid the ongoing Israeli aggression and reject all attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause.

The call reflects a condemnation of the barbarian attacks of the occupying state against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, the board said in a statement released on Wednesday.

The rally will also affirm the unity of the Egyptian people and state in the face of “threats to liquidate the Palestinian cause and harm Egypt’s national security and the integrity of its lands,” added the statement.

The gathering’s location, which symbolizes Egypt’s victory over Israel in October 1973, sends an important message on the 50th anniversary of this victory to whoever it may concern, the National Dialogue board added.

Israel has called for Palestinian civilians to leave their homes in the north of Gaza and move south in a deliberate attempt to displace them in a way that threatens the future of the Palestinian cause.

Egypt and other Arab countries firmly rejected the Israeli step.

The Egyptians will always support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, especially establishing an independent Palestinian state on 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, said the National Dialogue board.

Thousands of Egyptians took to the streets on Wednesday across several cities to express their solidarity with the Gaza Strip, hours after the Israeli army shelled Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza, leaving at least 600 Palestinian civilians dead.

Gaza has endured 12 days of constant Israeli bombardment, which has killed around 3000 Palestinians, one-third of them children.

Israel has deprived the civilians in Gaza of food, water, and fuel and insists on preventing any form of humanitarian aid from reaching them.

The situation in Gaza threatens to turn into a humanitarian catastrophe.

On Wednesday, volunteers from the Decent Life Foundation and the National Alliance for Civil Development Work (NACDW) staged a sit-in in front of the Rafah crossing to protest the attempts to relocate the Palestinians in Gaza to Sinai and Israel's refusal to allow safe passage for humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The sit-in responds to President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's call for Egyptians to protest Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip, which he issued in a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Wednesday.

Convoys of trucks carrying nearly 3,000 tons of food and medical aid from various Egyptian NGOs and entities are waiting at the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza to deliver aid to the besieged strip.
