The convoy is part of Al-Azhar’s Save Gaza campaign, which aims “to support Palestinians as a result of the stifling siege imposed by the occupation on the Strip, and the martyrdom of thousands of innocent children, women, and adults,” Al-Azhar’s statement said.

Al-Azhar’s Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayyeb launched the Save Gaza campaign last week, calling for donations to the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House.

In a previous statement, Al-Azhar, the world’s leading Sunni Islamic institution, stated that standing in solidarity with Palestinians is “a religious, legal, moral, and humanitarian obligation.”

On Sunday, the Fatwa Centre of Al-Azhar stated that it is permissible for Muslims to give Zakat (charitable alms) to assist Palestinians suffering the effects of Israeli attacks.

Egypt’s Decent Life Initiative has also announced bank accounts to which Egyptians can donate to aid and support the Palestinian people amid the ongoing crisis.

Egypt’s Food Bank, the Egyptian Red Crescent and the Mersal Foundation are also accepting donations for Palestinians in Gaza.

A fourth convoy comprising eight trucks carrying humanitarian aid entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing from Egypt late Tuesday.

This brings the total number of truckloads of aid that have entered Gaza since Saturday to 62, falling far short of the 100 required per day to meet the needs of Gaza residents, according to an estimate last week from UN relief chief Martin Griffiths.

On Wednesday, Israel continued its bombardment across the Gaza Strip for the 19th day following Hamas’ surprise attack on 7 October.

The Palestinian death toll has climbed to 5,791, including at least 704 in the past day, and 16,297 wounded, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
