This came during El-Tayyeb’s visit to Pope Tawadros II on Wednesday to extend Christmas greetings.
The committee will be tasked with monitoring Gaza developments, voicing Egypt's rejection of the aggression, and advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people, El-Tayyeb stated.
“We have a duty and responsibility before God to defend the innocent Palestinians. This is particularly crucial in light of the observed negligence in supporting the Palestinian people and halting this bloody aggression,” he added.
Pope Tawadros II criticized the "deafening silence" towards calls for an end to the Israeli aggression and the facilitation of humanitarian aid to Gazans, despite claims made by some nations to uphold the principles of human rights.
“We have not witnessed the cruelty inflicted upon the Palestinians even in the animal world — a cruelty that has eradicated all notions of mercy and humanity, demonstrating a deliberate and persistent commitment to committing the worst crimes against the innocent,” he continued.
At least 22,185 Palestinians were killed and 57,000 injured since the beginning of the Israeli aggression against Gaza on 7 October, said the Palestinian Health Ministry.
