Egyptian MP Omnia Ragab killed in car crash in Minya

Omnia Ragab, a member of the Health Committee of the Egyptian House of Representatives, was tragically killed in a car crash in Upper Egypt’s Minya governorate on Monday.

According to security authorities, the fatal collision involving two vehicles occurred on the Eastern Desert Road, which connects Assiut Governorate to Cairo.

The incident also resulted in injuries to five other individuals.

The Public Prosecution has initiated an investigation into the incident.

Ragab, 64, has represented Minya in the House of Representatives since 2020. She was a member of Egypt's parliamentary majority party Mostaqbal Watan (The Nation's Future).

According to Law 46/2014 of the House of Representatives, a deceased MP is replaced within 60 days of their seat being designated as vacant through a substitute candidate in the list system.
