Using Japanese technology, the KuSui device will be manufactured by the ministry’s Helwan Metal Hardware Company (aka Factory 360), according to a statement issued by the ministry on Sunday.

More than 70 percent of the device’s components will be locally produced, Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Salah said during the signing ceremony.

"The production of this device comes as a result of diligent efforts exerted over more than a year, during which the device underwent several development stages," Salah said.

The prototype was built last year at Factory 360 under the supervision of a Japanese technical team.

The device will be able to produce 16 litres of clean drinking water a day, he added.

The ministry is planning to sell the device inside Egypt as well as export it to other Arab and African nations, according to the statement.

The MIZUHA chairman said his company seeks to meet the demands of the Egyptian market and leverage the country’s strategic location to further export its product.

The KuSui device is named for the Japanese words for "air" and"water." It works by liquefying water vapour in the atmosphere into drinking water using an ion exchange system and carbon filters to sterilise the water, according to the company’s website.
