In a statement reported by the Cairo24 news website, the company revealed that the issue affecting some customers in specific areas, preventing them from accessing certain communication services, resulted from a fibre optic cable cut in the New Cairo area due to construction work.
“The company indicated that it has taken serious steps and is currently working to repair the fault and restore service to its full capacity," the statement said.
Beginning around 6:00 PM Cairo Time (GMT +2), numerous Etisalat customers took to social media to express frustration over difficulties making calls or accessing mobile data services.
Many turned to Etisalat's official social media accounts to lodge their complaints.
On Tuesday, Vodafone Egypt witnessed a widespread outage in its 4G network that affected millions of users nationwide.
However, services were restored by midday.
