Egypt s Tribes and Families Council (ETFC) hosts a massive iftar banquet along the coast of North Sinai s Al-Arish to show solidarity with Gaza, March 29, 2024. ETFC
The ETFC, a nationwide civil society grassroots organization, dubbed the meal-less iftar the "Longest iftar Table."
The first-of-its-kind Ramadan banquet was organized on the coast of Arish, 47 kilometres miles from Gaza’s southernmost Rafah city, where more than 1.5 million Palestinians are crammed into crowded quarters and tents without enough food and water.
Arish locals and various human rights figures attended the iftar.
Organizers laid tables for the attendees with only dates and some liquids on an eight-kilometre stretch.
The ETFC said it was sending 100,000 suhoor and iftar meals to people in Gaza.

The iftar was attended by President of the National Council of Human Rights (NCHR) Moushira Khattab and Secretary-General of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood Nevine Osman.
More than one million Palestinians out of a population of 2.3 million in Gaza are facing severe food and water shortages due to the Israeli blockade on the strip since 7 October.
Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in northern Gaza are facing near famine conditions as Israel has blocked most aid to the area since the start of the war.
Egypt, which facilitates the entry of aid to Gaza through Rafah and Karm Abu Salem crossings, has called on Israel to open all border crossings to the strip to end the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in the strip.
Arish International Airport has received hundreds of cargo flights from around the globe carrying aid to Gaza since the start of the Israeli aggression on the strip.
last Saturday, during a visit to the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing, UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the Israeli blockade on relief trucks to Gaza, stressing that the “long shadow of starvation” hovers over the strip.
