“Walk the Walk” rally, a first-of-its-kind event in Cairo, brings together thousands of older persons and their families for outdoor activities, educational resources on well-being, and opportunities to connect and build a stronger community, said GYF.

"Attendees can expect various live entertainment options, participate in fitness activities designed to promote physical well-being, connect with representatives from older-persons-focused service providers at dedicated resource booths, and enjoy delicious refreshments throughout the event," it added.

The rally promotes greater physical activity and social engagement and is committed to engaging as many community members as possible to support Egypt's elderly population.

The event, launched in 2021, attracted over 2,000 participants to promote active living in Egypt.

Egypt is experiencing a rapid demographic shift, with the percentage of the population aged 65 and above increasing significantly, necessitating initiatives that promote active and healthy aging, GYF emphasized.

The percentage of people aged 65 and older is expected to increase from five percent in 2022 to 18 percent in 2072 – a more than threefold increase, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

This category is expected to be three times the number of children under five in 2072, CAPMAS said, highlighting the need to provide them with better health and social care.

"It is a way to further connect members with even more older persons and empower them to live their healthiest and most fulfilling lives," GYF’s founder Dina Hashish said about the rally.

"Since 2021, the GYF has become a vital resource for this segment, fostering a community of over 55,000 members," Hashish noted.

"We connect members with essential services and advocate for programmes that promote active living," she added.

In addition, we offer a diverse range of virtual and in-person activities, including book clubs, a Golden Years choir, craft bazaars, trips, and wellness workshops, she clarified.

GYF is an Egyptian non-profit foundation dedicated to empowering elderly people in Egypt and the Middle East to live well through healthy aging initiatives.
