20 Egyptian universities among top 2,000 in 2024 CWUR Rankings

Twenty Egyptian universities have secured spots among the top 2,000 universities worldwide in the 2024 edition of the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR).

The CWUR select only 2,000 universities from a pool of 20,000 institutions globally.

Within this group of Egyptian universities, Cairo University was the highest-ranked nationally, placing within the top 513 universities globally.

Ain Shams University came second among the top 769 universities, while Mansoura University secured the third position within the top 873 worldwide. Alexandria University ranked 914th globally. 

Other Egyptian universities included on the list are Assiut, Zagazig, Tanta, Al-Azhar, Suez Canal, Beni Suef, Helwan, Fayoum, Menoufia, Kafr El-Sheikh, Benha, the British University in Egypt, Minya University, the American University in Cairo, and Suez University.

In a statement on Friday, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour said that Egyptian universities adopt educational and research policies that align with international ranking standards.

The ranking methodology employs seven objective and robust indicators categorized into four key areas: education (25 percent), employability (25 percent), faculty (10 percent), and research (40 percent), Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs Abeer El-Shater explained.

The research indicators include research output (10 percent), high-quality publications (10 percent), influence (10 percent), and citations (10 percent), she added.

Established in 2012 as a research project, CWUR offers policy advice, strategic insights, and consulting services to governments and universities to improve educational and research outcomes.
