Ahram Weekly’s Alyaa Abo Shahba, Sarah Alhosary win Egyptian Journalists Syndicate awards

Al-Ahram Weekly journalists Alyaa Abo Shahba and Sarah AlHosary won the Mohamed Salmawy Awards for Journalism in Foreign Languages of the Egyptian Journalists syndicate for the years 2022-2023.

According to the Journalists Syndicate on Monday, Al-Ahram Weekly Alyaa Abo Shahba is awarded Mohamed Salmawy Award for Journalism in Foreign Language for her special investigative report for the year 2022 titled “Hunting across Egypt: No quail in Autumn?” which discussed the threats facing migratory birds, especially quails, in their annual migration through Egypt.

The report was published in November 2022 as part of the special COP27 coverage in Ahram Weekly.

The jury also decided to award the 2023 Mohamed Salmawy Award for Journalism in Foreign Languages jointly to Sarah Al-Hosary for her piece "Celebrating in Sacred Attire" published in Al-Ahram Weekly and Dina Darwish for her piece “Informer…au Prix de Mourir” in Al-Ahram Hebdo.

“Celebrating in Sacred Attrie,” published in August 2023,  shed light on the special garments of the Egyptian Orthodox Church clergymen.
