Factbox: What you need to know about New Alamein Festival 2024

New Alamein City on the North Coast is hosting the biggest entertainment festival in the Middle East for the second year, which features a wide range of music, culture, shopping, and sports activities that will continue throughout the summer, starting this week and running until the end of August.

Here is what you need to know about the festival:

  • In its second edition, the management of the New Alamein Festival announced that 60 percent of the festival's profits are allocated to Gaza relief efforts.
  • It will be held from 12 July to 30 August in the coastal Mediterranean city about 100 kilometres west of Alexandria and 180 kilometres east of Marsa Matrouh.
  • Most of the activities will be on the extended weekends, between Thursdays and Sundays, while in August it will also feature activities during weekdays.
  • The first concert was on 12 July featuring popular Egyptian star Mohamed Mounir, while the final concert will be on 30 August featuring popular Egyptian Wegz.

  • 50 percent of the events will be held during the daytime to reduce electricity consumption,  relying on solar energy and generators.
  • The festival encompasses a variety of artistic, sports, and entertainment events, including five main festivals: Music and Singing Festival, Food and Theatre Festival, Sports Festival, Nebta “Plants” Children's Festival, and Entertainment Festival.
  • There will be a basketball tournament under the name “basketball courts” and a football tournament under the name “football courts.”
  • The festival will feature for the first time a dog fashion show.

Built over 48,000 acres with investments of over EGP 40 billion, New Alamein can host four million people. It is not only a resort city, but also a fully working year-round city and second administrative capital with a headquarters for the cabinet.

The nearest airport to New Alamein is Alamein International Airport, about 30 kilometres away. In addition, Borg El-Arab International Airport, west of Alexandria, is 75 minutes by car from it.

The Mediterranean city once completed will contain one of the 10 tallest residential towers in the world: the Iconic Tower at the Downtown Towers Project.
