The weekend is finally set to bring some relief to the northern parts of Egypt, offering a decrease of 2-3 degrees from the prolonged heatwave, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA).
Over the past days, the scorching heat has pushed temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius during the day in various regions, including Cairo.
However, sizzling temperatures will persist across the country until Thursday, with real-feel temperatures hovering around 40 degrees Celsius during the day.
On the North Coast, though, temperatures will remain slightly more bearable, staying just above the 35-degree mark until Thursday.
Respite on horizon
As we approach the weekend, Cairo can expect temperatures to reach around 35-36 degrees Celsius during the day, with real-feel temperatures slightly higher due to increased humidity, reaching 37-38 degrees Celsius.
Currently, South Sinai, home to the enchanting city of Sharm El-Sheikh, is experiencing scorching temperatures of about 45 degrees Celsius during the daytime.
However, next week respite will bring temperatures down to around 40 degrees.
In northern Upper Egypt, which includes Fayoum and Beni Suef, real-feel temperatures will decrease from 42-44 degrees Celsius this week to 39 degrees Celsius by Sunday.
Meanwhile, Luxor and Aswan in southern Upper Egypt will continue to endure sizzling temperatures of 44-45 degrees Celsius during the day, at least until next Sunday.
In a surprising turn of events, there is a chance of light rain in the southernmost parts of the country between Tuesday and Friday, although the likelihood remains low.
We also have some positive news to share this week!
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has announced the suspension of the load-shedding program, which began in July 2023, for the entire summer, given the intense heatwave.
Amidst these sweltering conditions, it is crucial to stay properly hydrated, wear light-colored and lightweight clothing, avoid direct sun exposure, and enjoy refreshing cold showers.
By following these simple measures, you can protect yourself from heat stress and potentially life-threatening heatstroke, which should be promptly treated.
