Ahmed Mostafa, Tuesday 6 Aug 2024

Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mohamed Abdel-Latif, announced the Thanaweya Amma results (final high school exam results) for the 2023/2024 academic year in a press conference on Tuesday, revealing an overall pass rate of 81.3 percent – the highest since 2020.

The ministry highlighted that the pass rate reached 80.64 percent in the science branch, up from 78.62 percent last year; 86.36 percent in the mathematics branch, an increase from 79.78 percent; and 80.27 percent in the humanities branch, an improvement from 78.74 percent.

For the second consecutive year, students underwent open-book system exams instead of the Bubble Sheet system. This shift in the exam system aligns with the country's efforts to revamp the education system, moving away from a memorization-based approach to one centered on comprehension.

The overall pass rate for the 2023/2024 academic year rose by nearly 3 percent compared to last year's 78.8 percent success rate but remains below the 81.5 percent achieved in the 2019/2020 academic year.

During the press conference, Abdel-Latif personally honored the top achievers and commended the support provided by their families. "I salute and appreciate every Egyptian family that has endured a great deal to support our students during their studies," stated Abdullatif.

This year, over 726,648 students participated in the high school exams, with 590,992 passing and 69,984 failing, according to the ministry. At the beginning of the school year, each Thanaweya student selects one of the three branches: science, mathematics, or literature.

The Ministry of Education has announced that appeals for high school results will be accepted within 48 hours. Appeals must be submitted online, and a date will be scheduled for the student to review a copy of the answer sheet for the subject being appealed.
