The minister announced this at a press briefing in Cairo on Sunday shortly after the highest-scoring students, locally known as first-phase Tansik’s candidates, submitted their university applications through the Tansik system.

144,462 students registered their preferences in the first phase of Tansik, the system for enrolling in public universities.

The first phase included students with at least 90.48 percent in the science section, 87.07 percent in the mathematics section, and 68.29 percent in the literature section.

The prestigious faculties in the scientific branch include medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and physical therapy. In the mathematics section, students mostly seek petroleum and mineral engineering and other engineering fields, while in the literature section, mass communication, Al Alsun (languages), and economics and political science are the preferred options.

Minister Ashour detailed the minimum grades required for admission: 93.2 percent for medicine, 92.8 percent for dentistry, 91.7 percent for pharmacy, and 92.2 percent for physical therapy.

For the Faculty of Engineering, the minimum grade is 88.65 percent, he added.

The minimum grades required are 85.24 percent for the Faculty of Economics and Political Science (EPS), 84.26 percent for Al Alsun (languages), and 83.17 percent for Mass Communication.

High school graduates in Egypt can find out which colleges they have been accepted into through the official Tansik.

The minister stated that the second phase of the Tansik will commence on Tuesday.

Second-phase students must have scored at least 64.63 percent in the science section and 56.09 percent in the literature section.

This year, 353,057 students are expected to enroll in the second phase, which will run until 24 August.

According to the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, over 726,648 students took the high school exams this year, with 590,992 passing and 69,984 failing.

The new academic year for universities and institutes will begin on 28 September 2024.
