Egypt is witnessing a gradual decrease in temperatures as the cool season officially begins on 21 December per astronomical calculations.

Heavy rain, occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms, is expected on Thursday, and hail is possible in areas of the Matrouh governorate.

Flash floods and strong winds may also occur in some regions of Matrouh.

In the evening, moderate-to-heavy thundery rain will likely affect Alexandria, Beheira, and Kafr El-Sheikh.

Meanwhile, Monufia, Gharbia, Sharqia, Dakahlia, Damietta, Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, Cairo, Giza, and Qalyubia expect light rain overnight.

On Friday, moderate rain is also expected in areas along the northern coast and the northern Nile Delta.

The EMA also expects light-to-moderate rainfall in parts of the southern Nile Delta, the Canal Cities, central Sinai, and the Gulf of Suez, extending to Greater Cairo and northern Upper Egypt.

It also expects morning temperatures in Cairo and Lower Egypt to range between 19 and 21 degrees Celsius during the day from Thursday to Tuesday, dropping to 10 degrees at night.

Furthermore, the northern coasts will experience similar daytime temperatures, with nighttime lows of around 9 degrees.

In northern Upper Egypt, temperatures will drop 4-8 degrees at night.

However, Egypt's deep south will experience warmer conditions, with daytime highs of 25 degrees and cooler nights with lows of around 8 degrees.

The EMA advises residents to take the necessary precautions to minimize the effect of these unsettled weather conditions.
