This came during a press conference following the weekly cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

PM Madbouly indicated only 12,000 candidates passed the tests administered by the Ministry of Education to hire 30,000 new teachers this year, as per a five-year initiative launched by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to close teaching shortages and bolster the education system.

Madbouly explained that the government will announce a competition to fill all 72,000  job vacancies in FY2023/2024 and FY2024/25 to close the gap.

He affirmed that the government has procured the necessary funds to pay their salaries.

In January 2024, the Central Agency for Organization and Administration (CAOA) disclosed the Ministry of Education's need to hire 11,114 assistant classroom teachers for primary school grades (first, second, and third) for the 2024/2025 academic year.
