Egypt swelters as temperatures climb over 40°C through Monday

Egypt is heading into a scorcher. From Wednesday to Monday, the country will endure a relentless rise in temperatures, with forecasters warning of punishing heat across most regions, and little relief in sight.

According to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA), the next several days will bring "hot to very hot" daytime conditions nationwide.

Translation: stay indoors if you can, and good luck if you can’t.

Even nighttime won’t offer much reprieve, with “moderate” evenings still clocking in around the mid-20s.

The EMA also flagged early morning mist — because what better way to start your day than sweating and squinting through haze on the highway?

This is expected in Greater Cairo, the Delta, the northern coast, canal cities, central Sinai, and Upper Egypt.

In Greater Cairo and the Delta, prepare for temperatures to march steadily upward, peaking at a stifling 38°C on Sunday before dipping to 34°C on Monday. Overnight lows? A still-sweaty 19°C to 24°C.

Northern coastal areas — usually Egypt’s summer escape hatch — won’t be spared either, with daytime highs reaching 36°C.

Nights will hover between 17°C and 22°C, though the EMA insists coastal zones will remain “milder” than the interior.

Further south, things get serious.

Northern Upper Egypt will roast under 42°C highs by Sunday, while nighttime lows inch upward, offering no cool-down.

But Southern Upper Egypt will bear the brunt.

Daytime temperatures are set to hit 44°C, rivalling a furnace before “easing” to a still-intolerable 40°C.

Night temperatures will be sticking between 22°C and 26°C.
