Acting President of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) Ambassador Mahmoud Karem
According to an NCHR statement on Sunday, the decision comes as Ambassador Khattab is pursuing a position within an international organization.
In her resignation letter, Ambassador Khattab conveyed her sincere gratitude and deep appreciation to the political leadership for endorsing the House of Representatives’ 2021 nomination, which led to her appointment.
Khattab was the first woman to lead the council since its establishment in 2003.
Moreover, she expressed full confidence in the current NCHR composition, describing it as a distinguished body of human rights experts and professionals capable of continuing the council’s institutional mission and ensuring its effectiveness and sustainability.
Following her resignation, legal procedures will be carried out under the law governing the NCHR.
Ambassador Karem will assume the acting president role and lead the council through the remainder of this term.
