In a statement issued late Tuesday, the ministry said the outage occurred in the backup power line serving the Cairo Air Navigation Center and did not impact airport buildings, air traffic, or passenger services.
The main power supply to the airport continued operating normally, the ministry added, noting that the facility is equipped with backup systems and alternative power sources to ensure uninterrupted service.
Repair efforts are underway in coordination with the electricity company, it said.
The ministry praised the swift response of emergency and technical teams, as well as coordination with the Ministry of Electricity and other agencies.
Cairo International Airport—Egypt’s largest of 23 airports—recorded its highest-ever daily traffic in April, handling over 102,000 passengers across 682 flights. According to ministry figures, the country’s airports saw a 9 percent rise in passenger numbers and a 3 percent increase in total flights in early 2024 compared to the previous year.
