Cairo University nominates 25 figures for 2025 state awards

The Cairo University Council, chaired by University President Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek, has approved the nomination of 25 academics and public figures for Egypt’s 2025 state awards.

These include the Nile Awards, State Appreciation Awards, Pioneer Awards, and the Women's Appreciation Awards. 

The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and the Supreme Council of Culture grant the awards in the sciences, arts, literature, and social sciences.

Among the most prominent nominees by the university, former Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni was nominated for the Nile Award in Arts.

Similarly, for the Nile Awards in Literature and Social Sciences, the university nominated Abdallah Abdel-Fattah El-Tatawy, Professor at the Faculty of Arts, and Abdel-Sattar Abdel-Haq El-Hollougi, Professor at the Faculty of Arts, respectively.

Kuwaiti writer Khalifa Al-Waqyan was nominated for the Nile Award for Arab Creators in Literature.

Cairo University’s nominees for the Nile Awards of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology included Essam Abdel-Hamid Abdel-Sattar Mostafa, Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, in sciences, and Reham Rashad Mohamed Ali, Professor at the Faculty of Science, in advanced technological sciences.

Moreover, the university nominated former Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said for the Women’s Appreciation Award in Social Sciences.  

The university also nominated Gamal Abdel-Samee Mostafa El-Shazly, Professor at the Faculty of Arts, for the State Appreciative Award in Literature, and Laila Mohamed Abdel-Meguid Ibrahim, Professor at the Faculty of Mass Communication, for the same award in social sciences.

The university’s council also approved other nominations for State Appreciation Awards in sciences and advanced technological sciences for contributions in agricultural, medical, and engineering disciplines. The council also finalized the list of nominees for the Pioneer Awards and the Women’s Appreciation Awards, bringing the total number of nominees to 25.

Cairo University’s President, Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek, stressed that the university’s awards council adheres to strict and transparent criteria in selecting nominees, noting that while Cairo University has a rich pool of distinguished scholars, state awards regulations require nominating only one candidate per award following a rigorous and objective evaluation process.
