During the meeting, FM Abdelatty conveyed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' greetings on the occasion of Christmas, expressing his sincere wishes that the festive season would return to Egypt and its people with love, peace, security, and stability.
The minister affirmed the Egyptian state’s appreciation for the Coptic Orthodox Church's long-standing patriotic role, under the leadership of Pope Tawadros II, in supporting national unity and promoting a culture of citizenship.
He stressed that the Church is one of the main pillars of Egypt’s national fabric, noting that this unique social cohesion serves as a key foundation for the country’s progress toward a prosperous future and comprehensive development for all Egyptians.
Abdelatty also praised the Church’s enduring spiritual, social, and humanitarian contributions throughout history, underscoring that religious holidays provide a renewed opportunity to reinforce the principles of solidarity and fraternity among all members of Egyptian society.
The talks also addressed the Foreign Ministry’s efforts to care for Egyptians abroad and its ongoing commitment to strengthening communication with expatriate communities.
Abdelatty commended the role of Egyptian churches overseas as patriotic institutions that help maintain strong links between diaspora communities and their homeland.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s continued provision of full consular support through Egypt’s diplomatic and consular missions worldwide, to safeguard the interests of Egyptians abroad and reinforce their ties to Egypt.
The foreign minister was accompanied during the visit by several senior officials, including the assistant ministers for financial and administrative affairs, diplomatic and consular affairs, cultural affairs, protocol, and the minister’s office.
Several senior Egyptian officials visited Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, on Monday to extend Christmas greetings.
Such visits are held annually in the lead-up to Coptic Christmas on 7 January and are considered a key feature of Egypt’s official calendar, symbolizing the close ties between state institutions and the Coptic Orthodox Church, as well as the broader commitment to reinforcing national unity.
