The move follows a proposal submitted days earlier by Senator Walaa Radwan, who called for regulating the platform, citing concerns over risks to children and adolescents.
Egypt’s move mirrors actions taken by several other countries that have blocked, restricted, or regulated Roblox due to child safety and content concerns.
Launched in 2006, Roblox is a US-based online gaming and creation platform that allows users to play games and design their own “experiences” using the platform’s tools.
The SCMR said the decision aligns with the government’s broader efforts to regulate digital platforms.
On Monday, the cabinet discussed measures to protect children from harmful content on social media and online gaming platforms.
Days earlier, the House of Representatives also announced plans to study legislation regulating children's use of social media platforms.
These steps follow President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s instructions to review British and Australian laws that restrict children’s access to social media.
El-Sisi’s remarks reflect broader concerns over the misuse of technology, including the rapid development of AI tools, which he warned could be used to create false scenarios and incite instability.
