They expressed their sincere desire for cooperation within a framework of complementary roles, fully acknowledging the ministry’s responsibilities, according to President El-Sisi’s directives and Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly’s instructions.
These instructions, they noted, include activating constitutional and legal provisions related to journalism and media, as well as ensuring freedom of opinion, expression, professionalism, and respect for private life.
They also expressed their commitment to representing the truth about policies and measures taken for the public’s benefit and correcting any misinformation. Moreover, they emphasized coordination among various media authorities regarding the affairs of Egyptian media, while respecting the roles of the three media authorities as defined in the constitution and relevant laws.
They highlighted the SCMR’s responsibilities in receiving notifications for the establishment of newspapers, granting licenses for media activities in radio, broadcast, and digital platforms, and setting and enforcing the necessary standards to ensure media and journalism outlets and institutions adhere to professional ethics.
They also outlined the National Press Authority’s responsibilities in managing state-owned press institutions, advancing them, developing their assets, and ensuring their modernization, independence, neutrality, and professional, administrative, and economic soundness.
Additionally, they shed light on the National Media Authority’s responsibilities in managing public media institutions to provide broadcasting, television, radio, and digital production services, as well as related engineering services.
During the meeting, the participants expressed their gratitude to President El-Sisi for his directives to the newly formed government. They praised the president's insistence on keeping the public informed through capable national media that can reach all Egyptians.
Such media, they underscored, is expected to deliver professional and responsible messaging that shapes collective awareness about challenges, counters rumours, fosters a culture of constructive dialogue, develops sound thinking, and respects others’ opinions.
They emphasized that these directives constitute a work programme to be pursued by each entity within its area of competence.
They also expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Madbouly’s keen attention to Egyptian media and its role in strengthening Egyptian identity, enlightening the people, and objectively highlighting challenges and issues for decision-makers.
They praised his emphasis on continuous coordination between relevant media authorities, without infringement on their independence as stipulated by the constitution and the law, to ensure integration and cohesion between the ministry and these authorities.
This coordination, they said, aims to significantly enhance the national media’s ability to communicate simple and strong messages with noble goals to citizens.
They also emphasized the importance of upholding societal values and traditions, respecting freedom of opinion and expression as guaranteed by the constitution and the law, and adhering to standards of objectivity and neutrality.
During the meeting, the three media officials congratulated Rashwan on his new role, expressing confidence that his extensive experience in all types of media, his political work, and the trust and respect he enjoys from professionals across all sectors of Egyptian media would ensure the ministry’s success in fulfilling the role envisioned by the state, the media community, and society.
They emphasized their commitment to continuing periodic meetings to enhance complementary institutional performance in their respective fields.
The meeting follows another between Rashwan and Madbouly to review the media action plan for the next phase, in line with President El-Sisi’s directives on media performance and public communication, and set clear mechanisms for their implementation.
