In a statement on Tuesday, the centre said the fabricated materials impersonate Sheikh El-Tayyeb by using his image and voice without his knowledge or approval, stressing that they have no connection to the grand imam or Al-Azhar.
The centre described the misuse of the grand imam’s image and voice in such materials as forgery, fraud, and public deception, saying the advertisements seek to exploit his standing and reputation for illegal commercial purposes.
Al-Azhar urged citizens and social media users not to purchase or promote the products advertised in the fake materials and not to engage with, share, or repost the fraudulent advertisements.
It also called on users to report such content and verify information through Al-Azhar’s official platforms.
The centre said Al-Azhar is taking all necessary legal and judicial measures against anyone found to have produced, fabricated, published, or promoted the advertisements, or used the grand imam’s image or voice in a way that falsely suggests the materials were issued, approved, or endorsed by him.
