A protest broke out today in the Southern governorate of Qena against the new governor, appointed yesterday by Prime Minister Essam Sharaf.
The protesters were angry that the new governor, General Emad Shehata Michael, used to be in the police forces and is the second Copt to hold the post. The protest took off from Tahrir Mosque to the governorate’s headquarters.
According to Ahram online reporter most of the protesters were from Salafist movements or the Muslim Brotherhood.
The protest also included residents of Qena members of the January 25 Youth Coalition and the Freedom Coalition.
Michael was among eighteen new governors appointed yesterday by Sharaf.
