Eleven people have been injured in a bomb attack on a security vehicle in the northern Sinai Peninsula.

Unknown assailants on a motorcycle threw a bomb at a security vehicle in Al-Arish on Wednesday night, state news agency MENA reported.

The attackers fled the scene.

The interior ministry confirmed seven security officers were injured.

A number of civilians were also injured, the health ministry added.

Some of the injured would be flown to Cairo for treatment, a security source told MENA.

Egypt has been plagued by a series of deadly bombings and shootings by militant Islamists which have mainly targeted police and troops, killing nearly 500, including some civilians.
